It empowers your own healing power using nature’s five elements. These elements, ether, air, fire, water, earth have unique qualities that are manifested in everything in the universe. We are all made of these elements in unique ways and therefore have their qualities, too. By understanding and balancing these elements within us, we can address various health concerns, including menopause. Home remedies for menopause relief harness the principles of Ayurveda to provide natural support during this transitional phase.

Menopause is the Vata stage of life where we all feel more air and ether elements and their qualities like dry, rough, cold, and mobile. These elements may manifest in our body and mind as Bloating, Disturbed Sleep, gas-bloating, Body Aches, Dry skin, Stress, Anxiety, Difficulty in Concentration, Mood fluctuation, Intolerance to noise, Reduced Bone density, etc.

Due to hormonal fluctuations, we also feel some Pitta qualities like hot flashes, night sweats, inflammation, indigestion and anger.

Ayurvedic Crepe Recipe (Ayurvedic Dosa)

I am big fan of everything I can wrap! The Turkish version is “gözleme”, Mexicans have tortillas, French has crepes and Indians have dosas, rotis, parathas.. This Ayurvedic Crepe (Dosa) recipe is made with mung beans and rice and takes some time as you need to soak twice but it is totally worth it. It feels like an omelet and you will be surprised by the texture without any eggs!
Course Side Dish
Cuisine Ayurveda
Prep Time 25 minutes
Cook Time 30 minutes
Servings 4 people
Calories 95kcal

Equipment

  • 1 pot
  • 1 pan

Ingredients

  • 1 cup White basmati rice
  • 1 cup Yellow split mung beans
  • 1 cup Plus 2 tablespoon of water
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • ½ tsp Ground coriander (optional)
  • Ghee or coconut oil for pan frying
  • 1 tsp Turmeric

Filling/topping:

  • Sesame or nigella seeds and/or podi mix or zahter; chopped fresh herbs, fresh cheese crumbles, steamed or grilled vegetables, chutney/pestos

Instructions

  • Take 2 separate bowls for soaking. Wash and strain the rice and mung beans separately, very well until the water runs clear. Transfer them into these separate bowls and  cover them with fresh water and soak for at least 6 hours or overnight.  After soaking, strain and rinse the rice and mung beans.
  • Grind the rice in a blender or food processor with ½ cup plus 1 tablespoon of water, on high speed until you reach a soft batter. Add more water if it is too thick. It should be like a pancake batter. Put it back in the bowl.
  • Then grind the mung beans, again in a blender or food processor with ½ cup plus 1 tablespoon of water. Grind until the mixture becomes like pancake batter, blending on high for at least 3 minutes. If your blender gets hot, stop.
  • Add the blended rice on top of mung beans and shortly mix them altogether, until the batter gets soft and fluffy.
  • Pour the batter to a bowl, cover with a towel, and leave it somewhere warm to ferment for 8-12 hours or overnight.
  • Fermentation will make the batter rise in the bowl.  The more the dough ferments, the lighter and fluffier the dosa.
  • At the end of the fermentation period, add salt, turmeric and coriander. If the consistency is too dense add some warm water and mix well.
  • Warm a cast iron or ceramic nonstick frying pan over medium heat and use ½ teaspoon  ghee per dosa in the pan.  Cook the dosa as you would a pancake.  Pour 1/3 cup of the dosa batter into the pan. Tilt and rotate the pan to spread the batter evenly.  If the batter is very thick, use the back of a large spoon to spread it in circles until the dosa is thin. You can also add a little warm water to the batter if it gets too thick.
  • When the dosa bubbles and the edges start to come away from the pan, check to see that the bottom is nice and brown. It’s done. If you like your dosa crispy, flip it and cook for a few more minutes.  Each dosa takes about 5 minutes.
  • Variation: you can sprinkle seeds, nuts, cheese, herbs on top of your batter during cooking, when you pour the batter into the pan and finish shaping it.
  • Serve with chutneys, cooked vegetables and herbs. You can make sweet versions by topping with honey or marmalade.

5 Senses and Their Role in a Healthy Body, Mind and Spirit https://www.ceylanayik.com/role-of-5-senses-in-our-body-mind-spirit/ https://www.ceylanayik.com/role-of-5-senses-in-our-body-mind-spirit/#respond Mon, 27 Mar 2023 08:29:32 +0000 https://www.ceylanayik.com/?p=7634 We experience life with our 5 senses, we smell, hear, see, touch and taste life! If your nose is blocked or eyes are blurry, if you lose taste or if your skin becomes numb, you understand the value of that sense much better.

Your quality of life literally depends on these 5 senses.

When you clearly see a beautiful sunset or can read a great book, when you smell the flowers, when you get a hug from the loved one, and taste a delicious meal, that moment becomes a treasure in your day and eventually the collection of them make up your life.

Therefore we need to keep these 5 senses healthy, clear and vibrant to increase the pleasure we get from life.

Ayurveda teaches a daily routine from the moment you open your eyes in the bed, to the moment you go to sleep again. It advises you to awaken these senses gently, stimulating them slowly and clearing them thoroughly.

There are many rituals for nasal cleaning and oiling, tongue scraping and oil pulling, eye washes and again oiling! The magical self-massage with oil called Abhyanga changed my life in recent years! From a dry skinned, itchy person I turned into a silk-like, soft skinned woman in her 50s (against the menopause symptoms).

Here are some rituals you can try daily and feel the difference in your overall satisfaction and wellbeing.

Start your day with the following suggestions:

  • Do not check your phone first thing in the morning, go to the bathroom without it:) Your bowel movements are the most important news about how well you nourished yourself the day before!
  • Wash your face and eyes with very cold water, splash about 10 times.
  • Clean your nose with neti pot, with warm water and salt, clearing each nasal passage well.
  • Clean your mouth with oil pulling and tongue scraping. Get 1-2 spoons of sesame or other oil, gargle and swish inside the mouth for 2-5 minutes and spit out in a garbage bin. Then scrape your tongue 10 times to clear out the remaining ama (toxins).
  • Get to a quiet and darker corner in your house.
  • Light a candle and gaze at its flame for a few minutes
  • Look at a nice flower, nature, sunrise or a nice photo/picture/painting
  • Smell an essential oil like lavender or peppermint
  • A short stretching, breathing and meditation will detox your mind and get you ready for the day.

Optional: If you shower in the morning, after the shower, massage your body with sesame or any other high quality oil. Wait about 10 minutes and then you can quickly shower to get rid of the excess oil if you need to wear your clothes and your skin feels too oily. This way the body will absorb even better.

In summary, take good care of your 5 senses, clean and oil them daily, morning and evening.

In our Ayurvedic Cleanse Programs I teach these rituals and always get such great feedback from participants. They mention that they feel calmer, more energetic and happier overall!

The use of 5 senses in different areas of life has been on the rise. For Example, my dear friend Hulya is organising a training called Multi-Sensory Technique for Positive Mindset in Geneva. It is about the senses of hearing and smelling, by using music and aroma to break free from negative patterns and embrace a positive mindset. Take a look on innkick.com

Free Dosha Test https://www.ceylanayik.com/free-dosha-test/ Sat, 28 Jan 2023 12:01:19 +0000 https://www.ceylanayik.com/?p=7265 Dosha tests are a self-assessment tool in Ayurveda to identify a person’s dominant dosha or body type. The three doshasVata, Pitta, and Kapha – are thought to control a person’s physical and mental attributes. Knowing your dominant dosha can aid in understanding your tendencies and making lifestyle choices that promote good health and well-being. I would suggest you to take this free dosha test that I prepared: Dosha Test

These tests typically involve a series of questions related to physical characteristics such as body type, energy levels, skin type, sleep patterns and mental and emotional tendencies, like decision-making style, handling stress, and reactions to change. Through answering these questions, you can gain insight into which dosha is most dominant in your body and mind.

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a holistic medical system that originated in India thousands of years ago. It emphasizes the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit, and aims to achieve balance and harmony in all aspects of life. The fundamental principles of Ayurveda revolve around the idea that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between three fundamental energies or doshas – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

doshas

3 Doshas: Vata, Kapha and Pitta

It is important to note that everyone has a unique mix of all three doshas (vata, kapha and pitta), but one usually dominates. By understanding your dominant dosha, you can comprehend your tendencies and make lifestyle changes that support your health and well-being. Ayurvedic medicine believes balancing the doshas is crucial for optimal health and well-being. Dosha tests can be a valuable tool in this journey by providing a starting point for identifying imbalances and making changes to support your health.

Free Dosha Test

In conclusion, a dosha test can help in discovering more about yourself and your tendencies. By recognizing your dominant dosha, you can make lifestyle choices that promote good health and well-being and strive towards achieving balance in life.

Doshas can vary from person to person and change with age, or they can remain consistent throughout a person’s life.

When a person’s doshas are out of balance, this leads to ailments such as skin problems or digestive issues. In order to restore balance, it is necessary to identify the predominant dosha in a person and take steps to correct imbalances in other doshas.
